THE 17th. DOVE BEER AND JAZZ FESTIVAL FRIDAY 4th. July to SUNDAY 6th. July 2008 Well the time has arrived to let your thoughts wander to the 2008 Beer and Jazz Festival. We have as usual endeavoured to assemble a star studded and exciting programme of the “Traditional” style of jazz music. We have bands and musicians that we are confident will be able to live up to the expectations that our valued patrons demand of a Dove jazz gathering. There are many old faces and firm favourites appearing alongside quite a few newcomers. During our three-day event you will find jazz in the village’s well-appointed Community Hall, at each of the two remaining village hostelries, and at the Methodist Church that hosts this years’ Church Service. Our Hall is now able to boast a completely refurbished kitchen and adjoining lounge. Regrettably a problem we are unable to over come is the lack of accommodation which is almost none existent in the village. However Buxton and Chapel-en-le-Frith, both of which are 3 miles away approximately, do have an ever increasing choice ofwell appointed accommodation to suit all tastes and pockets and are very easily accessible by road or public transport. A telephone call to 01298 25106, the Tourist Information Office in Buxton, could well prove beneficial. We have a magnificent scenically sighted campsite on the football field at the rear of the Community Hall. The Football Club also generously let us have the use of their modern showers and toilets for the duration of the Gathering. A modest charge of £7 per person for the Weekend is made for the campsite. Also popular with a number of our 'regulars' is that it is also open a few days before and after the Festival at no extra charge. Why not join this merry band living under the stars. There are many other attractions in the area that visitors to the Festival could take advantage of by extending their stay. On our doorstep we have some of the finest walking country in Great Britain in the Peak District National Park, not to mention too for example the chance to wonder at the amazingly beautiful dome of the former Devonshire Hospital in Buxton, a dome bigger than St. Paul's in London. For the not so energetic there are glorious drives nearby in all directions, for example to officially one of Britain's top tourist attractions, the grandiose Stately Home Chatsworth House, the seat of the Devonshires. Campers, visitors and musicians can take advantage also of the first class catering facilities in the Community Hall on Saturday and Sunday. Derbyshire cooked breakfasts will be available from 8.00am along with snacks and hot meals throughout the day. The two village pubs will be serving an enhanced menu for the benefit of jazzers. Real ale will be available at all the venues including the Festival Marquee where live music will also be provided with no admission charge. We should have cricket on both days alongside a liberal smattering of banter and sunshine. The "Centre of the Universe" extends a warm invitation to one and all to join it for its annual ram sam. We shall soon sell out, so don’t delay, send off for a ticket today ! Hoping to see you in Dove’s noted and glorious July sunshine, if not before, and don't forget - in addition to our Festival we have monthly gigs throughout most of the rest of the year where again all the bands featured are almost without exception specialists in the classic New Orleans genre. Roger This is the "small friendly festival with the BIG names " !! | |
